![]() Never really felt I'd mastered it and not an awful lot of learning resources for a beginner. ![]() Yes - been struggling with Capture One for a few years as complete newbie to shooting RAW. I thought this 2 step process was inefficient compared to importing directly into Lr and not using Capture One at all. The OP stated they wanted to perform raw edits in Capture One followed by using Lr to cloud sync. I am not saying the Capture One is inefficient. It’s probably neither particularly efficient nor logical, but it suits me and my work. They are both very similar and very different, and I tend to find that some jobs make me lean one way or another. So I use c1 for fine work, close headshots and portraits etc on low numbers of images, but if I have a job where I have large numbers of images to edit (100+) where I might be more likely to use presets as a base or don’t need such fine control and need to progress the editing quickly I tend to revert to Lightroom. I find c1 the more refined tool, but also the slower and more fiddly tool (not unreasonably given its more complex capability). I use both, though not for any meaningful reason past personal preference. Personally, I have the Adobe bundle because I want Photoshop but barely touch Lightroom as my preferred raw processor is Capture One.Īnd I certainly wouldn't describe Capture One as "inefficient." Only if Lightroom is your preferred raw processor. Using another program to process raw files is obviously possible however it seems inefficient and unnecessary. It's all good - the only question is how to position CO in this whole workflow which is my preferred RAW processor :-). If desperate I can even export JPGs for social media on the go. For me the only advantage of LR is cloud sync - because is synchronizes only smart previews I can easily access and cull my photos on the go. Now I have 3 months free trial of Adobe Photography plan and I am curious if anybody uses both CO and LR. I am long time Capture One user, before I used exclusively LR (prior the subscription age). If you use C1 as sessions you can also right click in LR to show the raw file in finder and drag it into a C1 session to open it.Īs an aside, I also use Neofinder to catalogue C1 Sessions and I am playing with the new PhotoMechanic database addition, as a possible replacement for LR, but the lack of even simple editing tools limits the usability of PM, as does it's lack of Smart folders, but that is coming. I actually use Jeffrey Friedl's “Collection Publisher” to do this now, which is much much more flexible than the built in Lightroom tools. Lightroom keeps track of which sessions files have been copied to, and syncs any deletions in the C1 session. I sometimes edit in LR, but normally I use the LR Hard Drive Publish Services option to "copy" my best files into a C1 session, duplicating my best files in a session is part of my backup strategy. I have the Adobe Photography Plan primarily to get Photoshop, and I round trip from C1 to PS.īut I also prefer using Sessions in C1 and I use Lightroom as a catalogue and tool for interacting with the wider world. I am wondering what are some of your use cases to use and keep both.
